With an eye towards long demanding gravel rides like the Unbound, Trans Iowa, and others, Challenge presents the Gravel Grinder Race Tire.
While many of Challenge's previous tires are right at home on gravel, they wanted this one to be specially tailored for longer, more demanding rides where tire width and flat protection are at a premium. To this end, they gave the Gravel Grinder Race their Double Puncture Protection System (PPS2) and spec'ed it with a generous 36mm width, resulting in great durability and dependability with comfort and stability on uneven and loose terrain. With file tread in the center, the Gravel Grinder roles smoothly, but still grips turns thanks to its more aggressive shoulder knobs.

Technologies
Pro Handmade Clincher
Handmade tyres combine a variety of outstanding features to offer the highest comfort and lowest rolling resistance. Carefully selected materials are used in the different tyre levels according to usage performance requirements. Soft, supple carcasses quickly adapt to the shape of the surface when rolling and cornering. This increases ground contact and grip and improves shock absorption on poor road surfaces. Soft, natural rubber treads are combined with lightweight, flexible puncture protection.
Superpoly casing
Polyester is the cheapest of all handmade casings. It is a synthetic fabric that is very strong and waterproof and offers much more flexibility and durability than comparable nylon materials. Challenge uses high quality polyester or SuperPoly (higher TPI polyester) to produce cost effective pro-level tyres.
Handcrafted Natural Rubber - Standard Hardness
Challenge's handcrafted natural rubber treads are compounded to provide the perfect amount of durability without compromising performance, comfort and control. Challenge tyres wear out 10-20% faster than the competition, but offer significantly improved performance and feel throughout their life. Depending on the requirements, the tyres are equipped with different soft rubber compounds. The Standard hardness grade offers the ideal blend of performance, control and durability.
Puncture Protection System 2 (PPS2)
Tires designed for use on rough roads, cobblestones and gravel are equipped with PPS2 (Puncture Protection System 2). In addition to the normal PPS protective layer between the tread and casing, these tyres offer unrivalled puncture protection thanks to an additional PPS fabric layer between the casing and the inner tube.
